In the first phase of the National Women's Hockey League expansion, another professional women's hockey team has been added to the list. The Minnesota Whitecaps will join the four East coast teams, the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale and the Metropolitan Riveters of Newark, N.J.
Since 2004, Winny Brodt Brown, Ms. Hockey winner and Brooke White-Lancette, both Co-Captains and co-founding players of the MN Whitecaps, believed this day would come. There were many loyal players and fans in our hockey community who helped supported our dream.
The Whitecaps coaching staff will be announced at a later time, and rosters will fill out once the free agency opens on June 1. The core staff will remain with the Whitecaps, said Dani Rylan, NWHL founder and commissioner at the news conference last Tuesday in St. Paul.
As Rylan said, it is now a realistic dream for girls to have the same dreams as their brothers: To play professional hockey.
